We don't default to WordPress because it's familiar, and we don't push a JavaScript framework because it looks modern on a proposal. The stack decision gets written down and explained to the client before development starts, including the trade-off: WordPress is faster to launch and cheaper to maintain long-term for content-heavy sites; a custom or headless build costs more upfront but gives more control over performance and future features.
Information Architecture and Page-Level Planning
Before design, we map every page the site needs against a purpose: what should a visitor do on that page, and what happens if they don't.
